Workshops & Events at Prototype PGH

Our mission:

Gender and racial equity through tech access, workshops, and peer support

We support our members to be inventive, curious, and not afraid to fail. We value feminism, racial justice, and cooperative economics.

We center marginalized groups that are often shut out of manufacturing, craft, and entrepreneurial spaces. We support makers and crafters with peer support and access to our tools and equipment to realize their visions.

What Kinds of Events Happen At Prototype PGH?

We’re delighted to host a rich array of events, dreamed up and facilitated by you! We define tech very expansively and with a queer feminist lens (textile is tech!).

We host a variety of workshops in both of our locations (606 Main Street in Sharpsburg and 460 Melwood Ave in Oakland), provide a space for creativity and entrepreneurship for women and queer folks of Pittsburgh, and foster partnerships across Southwestern PA.

Some of our offerings are recurring while others are one-offs. It’s an evolving roster of fun, educational experiences–from crafting your own infused herbal oil to finetuning your messaging in a digital marketing workshop. If you become a member (https://prototypepgh.org/membership), you’ll receive a discount for our paid workshops. However, accessibility is important to us, and every workshop at Prototype Pittsburgh is NOTAFLOF (No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds)! If you can’t pay for one of our workshops, just shoot us an email at hello@prototypepgh.org – we can get you registered and you will not be asked to explain your financial situation.

Prototype PGH also offers private workshops for groups of up to twelve people, including children's parties. Get started here.

How To Submit A Workshop or Event

We welcome workshop and event proposals from members and friends of members! Check out our event calendar to see what days and times are available and fill out our proposal form. Not a member yet or don’t know someone who is? No problem! Prototype PGH still may be a good home for your workshop or gathering: email us at hello@prototypepgh.org and we’d be happy to explore the possibilities with you.

All public events and large group meetings (5+ people) in the space need to be requested at least 4 weeks ahead of the event date and approved by our team. They will then be posted on our events calendar (for private events or meetings, we will simply post "private event" without any details on our public-facing calendar).
